There are many homeless people in the city, as in any major metropolis in America. The police do not touch them, and the locals try to feed them.
But given the northern climate, Chicago is not at all suited to life on the street. Often, homeless people can be found sleeping under numerous road and metro bridges. The difference between Chicago, say, and Moscow is that a number of roads have been removed underground, while the subway, on the contrary, is rushing over your heads.
The city is trying to solve the problem of the homeless. One day we were invited to the restaurant “Kitchen of Inspiration”, where only former homeless people work. Right in the restaurant premises there is a shower and a washing machine, where people who do not have a permanent home can wash and wash their clothes. The Americans support this institution – at the time of our visit there was a young couple and their parents. They explained that they wanted to order wedding catering in this establishment.
