A memorial mural to rapper Kanye West has been painted over in Chicago amid a wave of criticism against him for anti-Semitic statements. This is reported by NBC News.
According to the publication, the artist, who previously painted a mural to West on one of the houses in the rapper’s hometown, explained this by saying that society needs “the best role models.”
Earlier, on October 25, the German sportswear manufacturer Adidas announced that it would terminate the contract with Kanye West amid recent scandals over the artist’s statements.
In particular, West made several anti-Semitic posts on Instagram (owned by the Meta organization, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) and Twitter. He posted a screenshot of correspondence with rapper P. Diddy, where he accused him of being controlled by the Jewish lobby. Ye also added that Jews generally control the government, media and banks.
After the breakup with Adidas, West’s fortune decreased from $ 2 billion to $ 400 million.
Against the background of criticism, other brands with which he collaborated also refuse the rap artist. As reported, Balenciaga and Skechers have left West at the moment. He also lost a deal with Gap. And Madame Tussauds Museum decided to send a wax figure of the musician to the archive.
